Columbia Pike Neighborhoods Area Plan Wins NCAC-APA Award

The Columbia Pike Neighborhoods Area Plan has been awarded the Benjamin Banneker Award for Outstanding Social Commitment and Community Initiatives from the National Capital Area Chapter of the American Planning Association.

The Columbia Pike Neighborhoods Area Plan seeks to guide public and private investment in the multi-family residential areas of the Columbia Pike Corridor. It balances a range of housing affordability, improved forms of building and open spaces, and the preservation of historically significant buildings. The result is a comprehensive vision that promotes new infill development as part of a walkable, transit-oriented community, while ensuring the continued availability of affordable housing.

The 2012 awards will be formally presented as part of the NCAC-APA annual conference on Saturday, November 10.
